Risk-Taking: An Ingredient for Success

Risk-Taking: An Ingredient for Success

Do you agree or disagree with the following statement?

"American students should participate in exchange programs and spend one year of study in a foreign country."

Please review the arguments for and against the statement and enter your response.

Pros
Nothing ventured, nothing gained. Leaving the safety of the known can be a frightening experience. But the evolving global nature of today's business world demands that American schools produce students capable of functioning in a multicultural market place. The investment of one year now will reap great rewards in the job market of the future.

Cons
Study in a foreign country is not all it is cracked up to be. Other cultures are not automatically hospitable to Americans. Foreign educational systems leave much to be desired. One year's absence is a tremendous sacrifice and burden on personal relationships. When it comes to education it is better to invest in the known; attending a good American college with the nearby support structures of family and friends is the path to success.
